An EWG Verified mark on a product indicates that the company's ingredient disclosures show the product has met our full criteria to ensure it adheres to our standards for health.
This scoring system was designed to help the public understand whether a product is safe to use, or whether it contains ingredients of concern.
Every product and ingredient receives a two-part score — one for hazard and one for data availability. The safest products score well on both, with a low hazard rating and a fair or better data availability rating.
A product can become EWG Verified if it:
- Meets EWG's criteria for overall product hazard score
- Does not contain any ingredients on EWG's "Unacceptable" list
- Discloses all ingredients, including those in fragrance

What are the ingredients in Elevate Mascara?
Elevate Mascara is formulated with naturally derived ingredients: Deionized Water (Aqua), Iron Oxide, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Sucrose Stearate, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Cichorium Intybus (Chicory Root) Extract, Propanediol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Wax, Phenoxyethanol, Galactoarabinan, Capryl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Caesalpinia Spinosa Gum, Acacia Senegal Gum. The formula is 100% vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, gluten-free, and phthalate-free.
Is Elevate Mascara waterproof?
Elevate Mascara is water-resistant, not waterproof. It holds up well against moisture, tears, and humidity once fully dried down, but it is not designed to withstand full water immersion. This also means it removes more easily and gently than waterproof formulas — no harsh removers needed.
How do I remove Elevate Mascara?
Elevate is designed to come off easily without aggressive makeup removers. Micellar water is the recommended removal method — gentle enough for the eye area and effective at breaking down the formula. The Formless Beauty Renewal Cleanser also removes it without requiring a separate eye makeup remover step.
How do I apply Elevate Mascara for best results?
Start with all other eye makeup already in place — concealer, eyeshadow, and eyeliner go on first. Curl your lashes, then apply from root to tip using horizontal strokes at the base and vertical strokes toward the tips. Allow one full minute of drying time between coats. Build from one coat for an everyday look to two or three coats for full drama. Always complete upper lashes before moving to lower lashes.
